The staff shortage in Dutch healthcare will increase to around 50,000 vacancies by 2022. At the moment half of all the newly trained employees drop out within 2 years.
That’s why the city of Rotterdam chose to start recruiting from a group that has been ignored until now: people on welfare. People without a diploma and often with debts. But mothers too, and informal caregivers. Can this group of motivated, warm and caring people be prepared for a demanding job in healthcare.
